| Sarangkot/Kaskikot
Hiking |
This is a 1,600m high hill
situated on the northern shore of Phewa Lake. On
the way to Sarangkot you'll pass through
schima-castonopsis forest and there is lot of
opportunity to watch birds. It's a 2 hours walk
from Phewa lake. On reaching the hill, you can
find good hotels and a tower on the top of the
hill from where you can view the Pokhara Valley
and also the wide range of Annapurna. You can
also see Phewa Lake and its tributaries. It's
advisable to stay a night there and watch the
sunshine in the morning and sunset in the
evening.
An hour walk from Sarangkot will lead you to
Kaskikot. Kaskikot is a historical place and the
homeland of the shah kings of Nepal. The word 'Kot'
means fortified palace from where the king ruled
the area. There is a stone staircase leading you
to the top at the altitude of 1,758m. There is a
great celebration during the "Chaite Dashain"
festival in April and "Bada Dashain" in October.
During these festivals many goats, ducks and
buffaloes are sacrified inside the fort. From
Kaskikot you can also reach Naudanda (1,436m)
which literally means nine hills. Here you can
meet the Pokhara-Baglung highway and can observe
entire Annapurna range in the north and Phewa
lake and Pokhara city in the south. You can also
see the twin pinnacles of Machhapuchhre which
cannot be see from Pokhara. |

| Thulakot Hiking |
Thulakot, or the great fortress, is one of the
best hills for day hiking surrounding the
valley. It is abut 3-4 hours walk and situated
at an altitude of 1,479m. You can reach Thulakot
either from Banjapatan or Teen Piple (near
military camp). Along the way you'll see one of
the lake of Pokhara, Khaste lake. From Thulakot
you can see Mt. Annapurna, Pokhara city with its
seven lakes and the historical fort's remains.

| Kahun Danda

This is also a hill, at 1,443m high, and is two hours walk
from Mahendra Pool. Like other places this place also offers
pleasing view of Annapurna range and flat terraces of
Pokhara. On the top of the hill is a tower constructed for a
clear view of the valley and the Himalayas. There is a
fortress and temple on the top.

| Phoksing Danda |

The Phoksing Danda is situated on the southern part of the
valley, from where you can enjoy the enchanting view of
whole Pokhara and a wider array of mountain, from Dhaulagiri
in the west to Ganesh in the east. From a convenient point,
one can experience the pleasure of viewing Annapurna range
in the north and flat plain of Pokhara in between Phewa lake
in west and Begnas lake in east. To reach Phoksing there are
two trails, one of which leaves from south of Pokhara
airport and the other from the Mahatgauda past Institute of
Forestry.

Nagarkot Hiking
Nagarkot is
located 32 km to the east of Katmandu on the valley rim,
Nagarkot is the favorite weekend gateway for those who seek
Himalayan Scenery and rural serenity. From Nagarkot, you
witness the stunning view of mountains that extend all the
way from Dhaulagiri in the west past Mt. Everest to
Kanchenjunga in the east. The surrounding countryside of
Nagarkot is great for walking.

Dhulikhel Hiking
Dhulikhel is
a small Newari town with a long history. Records show that
it has been around for more than 500 years. Dhulikhel has a
glorious past. The artistic skill and urban ethos of its
Newar inhabitants have created a place of charm and beauty.
Streets lined with bare-brick houses, carved wooden windows,
sloping title roofs, pagoda temples and sacred statues
everywhere.
